Photographing the beauty of nature. The images allow artists to express themselves and different locations. Pictures which include elements to do with the surroundings of the sea, including all types of natural scenes.
Statement of Intent
Landscape Photography is capturing scenes which can be either natural or man-made.
This includes photography of either Seascapes or Urban-scapes; both of which I will be focusing on within this project. The theme throughout this project is different landscapes in order for me to be able to contrast them. The two locations which will be key throughout this page are Anglesey, Manchester and London. I will take a trip down to London and Anglesey of these places as I wanted scenery which would vary from what we see on a daily basis however I would like to include images from Manchester so that this project could have a personal feel. For my Seaside project I have decided to do artists which have cold cool tones within the images as it would link more to my images as I had visited in the winter.
Initially, for urban photography I had decided to work on pictures which were vibrant and lively however after research on photographers like Berenice Abbott I have been encouraged to keep my work consistent with the use of Black and White images, and portray a variety of types of buildings. I am intrigued by the thought of differing from my past projects as it'd allow my knowledge on types of photography to grow. Although a large amount of my pictures will be around architecture, I would like to explore photography which zooms in on textures, details and framing. I have a strong will of my work to be neat however I may include images with a bit of colour so the images can contrast to each other - I will also make sure my photographs are kept at a consistent standard through the use of analysation. I acknowledge my strengths and weaknesses in order to be able to make my future work better. I am going to use Photoshop to allow development of photographs to occur, using my skills to add effects and filters. These photographs will be taken on a camera. The Canon DSLR. I will use this camera and apply my knowledge of camera settings. I will use the camera on manual as it will help me control certain settings. Using exposure to allow my pictures to come out with the best result as lighting is a key factor in photography and types of images you may wish to portray - Depth of Field;to have the ability to control how much is in focus and how much is not is a vital skill as it can make the picture or not.
I hope to delve in to photographs and analyse to the best of my ability; I hope that this project has the best outcome.

This is my favourite image from Harrison's work due to the fact that it shows many photo-graphical terms resulting it in to be the masterpiece that it is. I like this image mainly because of the lack of colour that it has, they all are similar differentiating in the shades and creates a very cold tone; this will make the viewer get an insight as to the time of the year in which the image was taken as the image seems as though the weather conditions are quite frosty. As well as being an effective, the image has a vanishing point leading in to both, the sky and the sea. They both being to meet and merge the further you look in to the picture. The cliff has been positioned in the foreground of the image and allows you to pay equal amount of importance to both of the key elements within the photo and means that it will engage the audience in to the main element. The image is under exposed in my opinion, however may purposefully have been done in order to achieve this effect; and a large depth of field allows everything to be in focus. It seems as though this image was taken with a fast shutter speed as everything is in a still position. I really admire the way they have captured the scenery at an eye level viewpoint allowing the whole scenery to be taken in by the viewer.
David Gibbeson
This picture drew me in to it and impressed me the most when looking at it - I was moved by the way in which the hills seem as though they have been faded out and begin to become a more gray colour. Having been intrigued by the mistiness present in this picture resulted in overlooking the colour green which may have been dominating if the photograph hadn't been filtered. Discoloration allowed the viewers to engage more with finding the deeper meaning behind this image. I am very fascinated by the way in which the hills are drawn in to where the viewer's eyes would normally go to allowing you to acknowledge that it's the main element. The trees in this image have been filtered to be darker than the rest which creates a contrasting effect as well as the edges of the hills. This photo has the inclusion of fogginess, which could make the viewer seem as though parts of the image have been blurred out. I will try to implement the techniques within this photograph in to my own when using Photoshop because I strongly feel as though it's a very aesthetically pleasing image.

A transition from Seascape Photography to Urbanscape Photography has been made as I had wanted to explore the different types of landscapes that can be photographed. A focus on Seascapes allows it to contrast to Urbanscapes as the elements included in the pictures differ. There is more focus on more natural scenery however when we visit London it will be more man-made scenery as it will be a more developed location. Angelesy, Wales was a more quiet area with less people around allowing me to easily capture more scenes however London being the capital of England will be more lively and crowded. When we visited Anglesey it was Winter time but when we visit London it will be Summer - this may be acknowledged through the tones of the photographs and show an immense amount of disparity.

I chose this picture as my favourite as it consists of many abstract shapes and is black and white; the shapes here all differ. There is the use of triangles and rectangles adjacent to each other making this picture a lot more interesting and allows the viewer to become more diligent. The use of the triangles heavily differs to the incorporation of the rectangles as they both, to me, associate with triangles showing a sense of stability whereas rectangles could make the picture be a little more dynamic. There is inclusion of texture, despite it not being zoomed in on, it creates an effect as it again shows different lines which reinfoce the idea of stability. The way in which the image is bought together by the darkening of the edges directs the viewers attention to the part in which there is a light shade of grey being used. A shadow of it is there which makes the ground become a focus point and so adds a little more depth to the photograph. The photo may have been altered in order to show some parts being a little too light and some too dark. Overall, I like this picture very much as it has been filtered down in order to get the most effective things to be relevant.
Aaron Siskind
I am attracted to these images due to their lack of colour, the zoom on the detailing of objects and clarity. Majority of his images are neat with various images including different techniques. The theme of my work will be black and white and so allows this photographers to be relevant. The picture inserted above is my favourite because I love that the image has a large depth of field. This allows a large amount to be focused and highlights the patterns and shapes. This image gives off a sinister tone and can make the viewers curious as to what the message behind this image may be. There is an immense amount of colour contrast. Siskind may have taken images in black and white to emphasize on the emotion trying to be portrayed. This image has a perfect exposure allowing the fence to differentiate from the darkness of the fence. This image is shown to be very straightforward as it is taken from a bird eye viewpoint. This image is an illusion as some people may think it's a wooden fence which is broken when in reality it is one half coloured dark. The picture may have been taken to signify the beauty of simplicity. Personally I like this image as I am a person who would prefer to take photographs with no distractions.

In a majority of these photographs above you see the way the camera was angled, either at a worms eye view or direct contact level in order to include different aspects of each image. Different viewpoints and compositions all show the exploration of photo-graphical techniques. It makes it interesting for the viewer as a lot more is exposed showing it has a large depth of field or shallow depth of field. There are different shapes in these pictures creating a contrasting effect to the B&W of the image and are also able to give you a sense of disorder. There's no distraction of other objects - The lights and dark having a direct difference also creates an interesting effect. There is a tonal contrast between the buildings. In my opinion these images are very versatile due to the lack of colouring and allows viewers to interpret them in to a variety of ways, Black and White photographs also don't give off an idea as to when it may have been taken so upon the first look they will give a timeless quality.

In order to create a contrasting effect between my sets of images, I visited Manchester town at a different time of the year. I visited Manchester in the Autumn and so led my images to have a cool tone. I had decided to work in Manchester as I knew that it'd create a personal feel to this project and the building types may differ slightly to those of the ones captured in London

The aim for this project was to create a portfolio in which I had explored the theme of Changing Landscapes in different locations. From the moment I began working on this project, I was committed to the theme of black and white images to be portrayed because I really wanted to create some classical images
At first, there was a big focus on Seascapes for which we traveled to Angelesy, Wales - on that trip we were instructed to capture many scenery's which consisted of a lot of elements similar to those of the photographers I had done some artist research on.
I visited places such as London and Manchester when the change in focus occurred to Urbanscape - in which a wide range of photography techniques could be used as it'd develop my knowledge for the bettering of this course and having chosen to focus on the theme of neat and classical photography allowed me to keep my portfolio at a consistent standard. Throughout this project I have demonstrated an understanding of Photoshop by allowing you to see my step by step adjustments to images I have taken in order to explicitly show off the skills I have developed through the use of Photoshop over time. Knowing that the use of Photoshop would enhance my photographs immensely, resulted in using tools which allow my work to remain under the category of neat and classical photography as it was the main theme. A large amount of my inspiration sprung from how aesthetically pleasing other artists's images turned out to be.
